Holy Name School opened in September 1941. Our school has continued to grow under the leadership of 7 Pastors since 1941. The Sisters of Mercy were a critical part of our school's foundation and we continue to be supported by the Canossian Sisters. Our first lay principal, Mrs. Noreen Murphy, began in 1985 and retired after 21 years of dedicated service. Judy Cosmos lovingly served as principal from 2008 - 2015 and continues to serve as one of our substitute teachers. The next principal, Natalie Cirigliano spearheaded the Seismic Retrofit project and integrated technology into all classrooms when she served between 2015 - 2019. Our current principal, Michael Miller, served as a junior high teacher for 18 years and is so happy to be part of the Holy Name community warm and welcoming spirit. His vision is to continue to innovate and expand the academic and co-curricular offerings for Holy Name students and families. Holy Name School has proudly nourished its students for 78 years!
This year's tuition is $8150 for supporting families and $9350 for non-supporting families. Sibling discounts are offered.
360 students come to Holy Name School from all over San Francisco and San Mateo County.
Ethnic Distribution of School
Holy Name School prides itself in its diverse population. We believe our diversity helps to establish a culture of respect throughout the school and cultures are celebrated throughout the year with our annual International Food Fest, Feast Days and Patron Saint Days of countries, and through remembrances, teachings, and inspiration from cultural and valuable leaders of color.
Our regular school hours are 8:00 am to 3:00 pm except for Thursdays hours which are from 8:00 am to 2:30 pm. Teacher in-service days are held on the fourth Monday of each month, and hours are from 8:00 am to 12:30 pm. The Main Office is open from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.
Holy Name School is located in the Sunset District on the corner of Lawton and 40th Avenue. The Muni 29, 71 buses and the N-Judah streetcar stop within two blocks from our school. We have a convenient and safe drop-off and pick-up process for students being driven to school.
The dress code at Holy Name has always been an important part of the school’s effort to create an atmosphere conducive to learning. Uniforms can be purchased through the school sponsored uniform companies, Dennis Uniforms and Classic Design.
