Principal's Message

Welcome to Holy Name School!

school pricipal

Thank you for your interest in Holy Name School, a wonderful school rich in tradition and history and set in the heart of the Sunset District. Since 1941 Holy Name School has provided its students with a strong spiritual foundation and a rigorous high school preparatory education. Thousands of families have been a part of Holy Name School through the years. These families as well as our current families, make up the foundation of our Holy Name community, a community that simply put, you want to be a part of.

At Holy Name School, each student is expected to achieve his or her highest level of scholarship while learning values to help them become compassionate, contributing and responsible members of society. Our teachers actively support the school's mission by recognizing the unique needs and self-worth of all students. Our curriculum follows the directives of the Archdiocese of San Francisco and is aligned with the California State Standards. We are constantly exploring new academic programs to ensure we stay at the top of the academic arena while always reviewing and enhancing our current academic offerings. Our curriculum is designed to appropriately challenge students at all levels of learning.

We are excited to be able to offer our students so many unique experiences. In addition to having weekly art, PE, music, computers, and library classes, we also have a twice a week foreign language option. All families are able to choose Mandarin or Spanish for their children to study during the school day. Additionally, we have added a once a week dance course to our Kindergarten and 1st Grade curriculums so that they can continue to have opportunities to develop their balance and motor skills. Our 1:1 iPad Program in Junior High provides our students with even more collaborative and hands on academic opportunities in the classroom. It also helps to further prepare students for high school as they learn how to manage their courses and assignments through Schoology, an online learning management system. Thanks to our past Auction event, Holy Name has been able to continue to grow its technology program by having more access to ipads and continued improvements to classroom tech with the latest generation of SmartTVs that allow students and teachers more interaction between notes, assignments, classwork, and homework.

Our students start every morning as a community, gathering together for a morning prayer. Students engage in age appropriate religious education as well as celebrate weekly Mass as a school community. Catholic students are prepared for the Sacraments of First Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation. Though we teach Catholicism, many of our students are not Catholic, which allows for awareness, appreciation, and respect of other religions. Students who do not receive the Sacraments are encouraged to participate to the degree they are comfortable with and are always warmly welcomed at every faith-based event.

We are blessed to have a wonderful community of parents who are actively involved in their children’s educational, spiritual and emotional development. They work closely with our teachers, staff and parish, and they are a very important part of our school’s warm and enthusiastic environment.

As you browse our website or tour our school, I am confident that you will get a sense of how much our school has to offer and that we truly are a special place that is alive with activities and the joy of learning.

Please don't hesitate to contact the school office for further information regarding our school, to set up a school tour, or to let us know how we can support you further in the application process. Thank you for your interest in Holy Name School. We look forwarding to meeting you!

Sincerely,
Michael Miller, Principal
